About UPSC
The Union Public Service Commission or the UPSC is the premier recruiting agency of the Government of India. Millions of students sit for the various UPSC exams. Apart from the very well known Civil Services Exams, the UPSC also conducts three defence examination every year, namely, UPSC NDA, UPSC INA and UPSC CDS exam.
National Defence Academy Exam:
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the National Defence Academy exam twice a year. It is a national level exam in which unmarried male candidates who have passed 10+2 from any recognised board or university can apply. The written exam has two sections namely, Mathematics and General Ability Test (GAT). The Mathematics section consists of topics like Algebra, Matrices and Determinants, Trigonometry, Analytical Geometry of two and three dimensions, Differential Calculus, Vector Algebra, Statistics and Probability. The section of General Ability Test consists of question from English, General Knowledge, Physics, Chemistry, General Science, Geography, Current Events etc.
Combined Defence Services Exam:
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the CDS exam twice a year. The candidates who pass the written exam have to appear for the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview. After which the selected candidates are sent to their respective academies. The CDS written exam has three different papers: English, Mathematics and General Knowledge of two hour duration each.
The candidates who manage to pass the written exam will be called for the SSB interview. SSB preparation needs a good strategy and focus. In this phase, a candidate is screened thoroughly using different tests. The whole SSB procedure is divided into two stages – Stage I and Stage II. The interview takes place in the SSB centres designated by the Service Selection Board.
Indian Naval Academy Exam:
The Indian Naval Academy is an establishment for engineering and defence training for the Navy officers and coast guards. Candidates can join the INA after 12th by giving the INA exam just like the NDA UPSC exam. Here they will be given four years of training. The NDA cadets who wish to join the Indian Navy will undergo one year of training after NDA. Candidates joining through 10+2 Navy Technical Entry have the option to major in Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture and they get a Bachelor of Technology degree upon graduation.
