All India Sainik School Selection Process

What are Sainik Schools?

The Sainik Schools are one of the most elite chain of defence schools in India. Sainik Schools are known as the gateway to the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Naval Academy (NA). These schools were established to put an end to the imbalance prevailing in the officer cadre. Every Year thousands of young boys and girls try their luck for a settled future. The Sainik School Society conducts an All India Sainik School Entrance Exam (AISSEE) every year for class VI and IX. The selection procedure of Sainik Schools is a must to know before applying for the same. The Admission forms are generally out in the month of October or November and the exam takes place on the first Sunday of January. 

Selection Procedure

All India Sainik School selection process consists of the following steps:

  • AISSEE Written Exam 
  • Medical Exam

Exam Pattern – Class IX

All India Sainik School selection process for Class IX comprises of one written paper, containing five sections.

Section ‘A’: This section has 50 questions from Mathematics weighing 4 marks each.

Section ‘B’: It comprises of questions from English subject containing 25 questions and a weightage of 2 marks per question.

Section ‘C’: This is the General Science section. It contains 25 questions each with 2 marks per question.

Section ‘D’: It consists of questions from Social Studies. It also contains 25 questions with 2 marks per question.

 Section ‘E’: This section has questions from General Intelligence and contains 25 questions with 2 marks per question.

The whole question paper weighs 400 marks. The total time duration for the paper is 3 hours.

Exam Pattern – Class VI

All India Sainik School selection process for class VI also consists of one written paper having 125 questions from different subjects such as:

Section ‘A’: 50 questions from Mathematics are asked in this section. Each question carries 3 marks. 

Section ‘B’: This section has questions from General Knowledge. It consists of 25 questions and each question carries 2 marks. 

Section ‘C’: This is the language section and comprises of 25 questions from either from Hindi or English. Each question carries 2 marks.

Section ‘D’: This is the reasoning section which is the same as general intelligence. It also contains 25 questions carrying 2 marks each. 

The time duration given for the exam is 2 hours 30 minutes and the exam will weigh a total of 300 marks.

The selected candidates then undergo a detailed medical test at the civil hospitals shortlisted by the respective schools. Based on the marks in the written examination and medical fitness, the final merit lists is prepared by the schools and it is uploaded on the official websites of the respective schools.
