Any unmarried male candidate between 17 to 21 years of age can apply for the soldier general duty. As per the criteria, the interested candidate must be a citizen of India, Nepal or Bhutan. Divisions of GD

Soldier general duty is the backbone of the Indian army. There are two divisions of the GD post- Arms and Services. 

Arms: The soldiers in this post join the Infantry, Artillery, Armoured Corps, Engineers or Army Air Defence (AAD) as fighting troops, drivers, operators, gunners etc and many other General Duties.

Services: The soldiers in this post join the Army Service Corps (ASC), Army Ordnance Corps (AOC), Army Medical Corps (AMC) on General Duties, operators, drivers etc. 

Phases of Selection

The soldier general duty post takes place in three phases. They are Physical Fitness Test (PFT), Medical Test and a Written examination which is known as the Common Entrance Exam. The Common Entrance Exam for Indian Army GD comprises of objective type questions having four sections, namely General Knowledge, Science, Maths and Logical Reasoning. The Army bharti for Soldier General Duty takes place for the rank of sepoy who then becomes Lance Naik after his first promotion, and then Naik, next post is Havildar, after that he becomes a Naib Subedar, then Subedar, then Subedar Major.
