UPSC CAPF 2021 Notification and Exam Details

The Union Public Sevice Commission (UPSC) is all set to conduct the Assistant Commandant exam for the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) such as Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Candidates who wish to join to apply for the UPSC CAPF 2021 exam must fill the online application form from 15 April 2021 to 05 May 2021 on the official website of UPSC: https://www.upsconline.nic.in

The UPSC has announced bumper vacancies for different branches of the Central Armed Police Forces. 35 vacancies are for BSF, 36 for CRPF, 67 for CISF, 20 for ITBP and 1 for SSB making it a total of 159 posts of UPSC CAPF 2021. The exam will take place on 08 August 2021 (Sunday) at various centres allotted by the board across the nation. The candidates who filled the online application form successfully will have to download the admit card three weeks prior to the commencement of the exam.

Eligibility Criteria

There are several eligibility criteria that a candidate must fulfill in order to apply for the UPSC CAPF 2021. The candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university/institution. Both male and female candidates are eligible to apply. He/she should be between 20 to 25 years of age i.e. must have been born between 2 August 1996 and 1 August 2001. Age relaxation of five years is given to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe candidate, Civilian Central Government Servants and people who domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from 1 January 1980 to 31 December 1989. Relaxation of three years in age will be given to the Other Backward Classes. Indian, Nepalese and Tibetan candidate can apply for the UPSC CAPF 2021 Exam. 

Selection Process

The CAPF selection process takes place in three stages:

  • Written Exam
  • Physical Fitness Test 
  • Personal Interview/Personality Test

The written test will have two papers. Paper 1 is of General Ability & Intelligence and Paper 2 is of General Studies, Essay & Comprehension. Paper 1 will be of objective type paper and Paper 2 will be of descriptive type. The first paper will have a weightage of 250 marks and aspirants will have 2 hours to complete it. Whereas the second paper will have a weightage of 200 marks and 3 hours of time to complete it. The question paper will be in Hindi as well as in the English language. There will be a negative marking of 1/3 mark in paper 1.
