What is SSB?

The Services Selection Board of India conducts interviews to recruit deserving candidates in the Air Force, Navy and Army. Service Selection Board or SSB is an organisation set up under the Ministry of Defence. The official website of SSB is www.ssb.nic.in. The SSB conducts interviews of candidates applying for any of the three wings of Indian Defence Forces: Army, Navy and Air Force. In 5 day SSB interview, a candidate is screened thoroughly using different tests. The SSB procedure includes two stages of testing: Stage I and Stage II. The interview takes place at the SSB centres designated by the Services Selection Board. SSB interview training plays a pivotal role in cracking the exam.

How to reach SSB Interview Stage?

It is not easy to reach the SSB interview stage of recruitment because the candidate has to secure minimum qualifying marks in the written test and Officer Potentiality Test. Candidates who apply for the Air Force, need to qualify Computerized Pilot Selection System (CPSS) & Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT) also. After clearing the written test and Officer Potentiality Test, the selected candidates appear for the 5 day SSB interview round for the final selection.

SSB Interview Procedure

The Services Selection Board interview is conducted in two stages: Stage I and Stage II. Candidates have to report a day before the beginning of the 5 days SSB interview. Day 1 is for Screening Test in which Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests and Picture Perception & Description Test (PP & DT) are conducted. On Day 2 various Psychology Tests take place like Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), Word Association Test (WAT), Situation Reaction Test (SRT) and Self Description Test (SD).

Day 3 and Day 4 are reserved for Group Testing Officer Tasks in which Group Discussion, Progressive Group Tasks (PGT), Individual Obstacles, Group Obstacles Race or Snake Race, Command Task, Lecturette, Final Group Task, Group Planning Exercise (Military Planning Exercise), Half Group Tasks etc are conducted. Day 5 of the SSB interview is for Conference. In this round, the candidates sit with the SSB board members and the board asks a few general questions to them. This is to test the candidate’s confidence level.
