Rashtriya Military Schools – Overview

Rashtriya Military Schools are the pioneer of class education and guidance for National Defence Academy (NDA) and Naval Academy (NA). These schools were initially established for the sons of defence personnel. Later, civilian kids were also allowed to get admission in these prestigious schools. There are currently five Military schools in India. They are RMS Banglore, RMS Belgaum, RMS Chail, RMS Dholpur and RMS Ajmer. Rashtriya Military Schools give admissions to candidates eligible for class VI and IX through a Common Entrance Test (CET). For class XI the admissions are based on the board result of class X.

Exam Pattern for Class VI

The RMS entrance exam pattern for Class VI consists of subjects such as Mathematics, English, Intelligence Test and General Knowledge & Current Affairs.

Mathematics

The mathematics section of the RMS entrance exam for Class VI is of 50 marks and qualifying marks percentage is 40%. The Military School course to qualify the mathematics section of the entrance exam is Time and work, Percentage, Profit and Loss, Degree Fahrenheit, Simple Interest, Arithmetic Mean, Measurement of Temperature in Degree Celsius, etc.

English

English section is of 50 marks in total and the qualifying marks percentage is 35%. RMS course to crack this section contains topics like Antonyms, Synonyms, Prepositions, Composition, Framing Questions, Articles, Comprehension Passages etc.

Intelligence Test

The weightage of Intelligence Test is 50 marks. Candidates need to score 40% marks to pass this section.  The topics covered are Relationship, Relation of Analogy, Same class, Sequence, Verbal and non-verbal, Image, Completion of Series etc.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs

The General Knowledge and Current Affairs section of RMS entrance exam pattern for Class VI has a weightage of 50 marks. Candidates need to score 40% marks to pass this section. The topics one should cover for this section are vast such as History, Sports, Awards, Science and Health, Committee and Commission, States of India, Our Defense Forces, Atomic Power Station in India, Classical Dances of India, Books and Authors, International Organisations, Indian Constitution, Environment and Pollution, General Science, Important Events of World History, Inventions and Inventors, Some Abbreviations, Important Towns on Rivers, Countries, Capital and Currencies, National Park and Wild Life Sanctuaries in India, Union Territories, Famous Rivers, Geography, Famous Persons and places, Important Dates and days, etc.

Marks scored in English subject are not counted in the final merit list. Hence, the candidates should give more time and stress to other subjects. Students have to answer the questions on OMR (Optical Mark Reader) sheets. The candidates who pass the written exam then have to go through an interview which has a weightage of 20 marks. After these stages, final merit list is released.
