Noted Alumni of all India Sainik School (Part 1)

Here is a list of some of the most distinguished alumni of the All Indian Sainik School Society:

  1. Lieutenant General Om Prakash: An alumni of the Sainik School Bijapur, Lt. Gen Om Prakash got commissioned in 11 Kumaon Regiment. Born in Jajjhar Haryana, he has served in the Counter terrorist and Counter Insurgency Operational areas in North East and Jammu and Kashmir. He also worked with the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) in Kenya, Sri Lanka and Iraq. He is decorated with Param Vishisth Seva Medal, Ati Vishisth Seva Medal, Uttam Yudh Sewa Medal and Seva Medal.
  2. Prakash Jha: A well-known director who made several movies on social issues, Prakash Jha did his schooling at Sainik School Tilaiya. Born in West Champaran, Bihar Jha could not make it to the Indian Defence Forces. He later did graduation from Ramjas College, Delhi University. Being a cadet of Sainik School perfection ran in his veins hence many of his films were critically acclaimed and even won the National Awards. 
  3. Gurbaksh Singh Sandhu: The present boxing coach of India, Gurbaksh Singh Sandhu studied in Sainik School Jamnagar. He later joined Government Sports College, Jalandhar, and then acquired a diploma in boxing coaching from the NIS in 1975. He went to Germany to pursue Masters in Sports and on his return, joined the National Institute of Sports. He was coach to Vijender Singh who won a bronze medal for India in 2008.
  4. G. R. Gopinath: An alumni of Sainik School Bijapur, Gopinath briefly served in the Indian Army. He then founded his company Air Deccan, became a writer and also joined politics. He completed his education at the National Defence Academy and Indian Military Academy. 
  5. Rakesh Roshan: This ace actor and director did his schooling at Sainik School Satara. Roshan won many awards for his contribution to Indian Cinema. He did his graduation from Nawrosjee Wadia College, Pune and then started working as an assistant director. He became the most loved actor of the 80s.
