The Union Public Service Commission has released the notification for the post of Assistant Commandant for the Central Armed Police Forces. There are a total of five branches of CAPF – Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). The UPSC CAPF AC post comes under the Ministry of Home Affairs. 

Examination Pattern

The CAPF exam takes place in three phases:

  • Written Exam
  • Physical Fitness Test 
  • Personal Interview/Personality Test

The written test will have two papers, Paper 1 of General Ability & Intelligence and Paper 2 is of General Studies, Essay & Comprehension. Paper 1 will be of objective type paper and Paper 2 will be of descriptive type. Paper 1 will have a weightage of 250 marks and the time duration will be 2 hours. Whereas, Paper 2 will have a weightage of 200 marks and candidates get 3 hours to complete it. The question paper will be in Hindi as well as in the English language. Salary and Allowances

The UPSC CAPF AC is a post that has many opportunities for promotions and career growth. An Assistant Commandant receives a handsome salary and increases with promotions. The salary received by the UPSC CAPF AC is divided into Basic Pay, Dearness Allowance, In-hand salary, and Grade Pay. The basic pay is 15,600 rupees, grade pay is 5,400 rupees, dearness allowance (DA) is 26,256 rupees and in-hand salary is 44,135 rupees making it a total of 51,480 rupees per month. 

A candidate who gets selected as an Assistant Commandant then gets promoted to Deputy Commandant who gets a salary of 67,700 rupees. The next promotion is Commandant whose salary is 78,800 rupees. Senior Commandant gets 1,23,000 rupees per month. Deputy Inspector General gets 1,31,000 rupees per month. Inspector General gets 1,44,000 rupees. The salary of the Additional Director General is 1,82,000 rupees and Director-General gets 2,25,000 rupees per month. 

Apart from salary and promotions, the UPSC CAPF AC gets many perks and additional benefits such as a dearness allowance, money for ration, house rent allowance, special duty allowance, medical allowance, hardship allowance and transport allowance.
