What is SSB?
The SSB interview is known for its tough selection and even more tough tests to recruit the deserving candidates for the three wings of the Indian Defence Forces. Service Selection Board or SSB is an organisation set up by the Ministry of Defence. The SSB conducts the interviews of the candidates applying for any of the three wings of Indian Defence Forces: Army, Navy and Air Force. In all the SSB interview days, a candidate is screened thoroughly through different tests.
The whole SSB procedure includes two stages of testing as Stage I and Stage II. The interview takes place in the SSB centres designated by the Service Selection Board itself. The dress code plays a vital role in the SSB interview.
Dress Code for SSB
The code for men and women are as follows:
Men:
- One set of dark colour trouser and light colour shirt.
- One pair of formal and one pair of sports shoes.
- One necktie, which is optional.
- Winter wear if required.
- One pair of White shorts & T-shirts
- One tracksuit, in winters only.
Women:
- One pair of Dark colour trouser and a light colour shirt.
- They can also wear suits or sarees as per their preference.
- One pair of formal and one pair of sports shoes.
- One necktie, which is optional.
- Winter wear if required.
- Two tracksuits for the group tasks.
For Personal Interview:
- Men can wear a formal shirt, pants and shoes. They can also wear a blazer and tie, which are optional.
- Women, on the other hand, can wear a formal shirt, pant and shoes. Wearing a saree, blazer and tie are completely optional.
For Group Testing Officer Tasks
- Men must wear a white t-shirt and shorts with sports shoes. One can wear a tracksuit in winters.
- Women must wear a tracksuit during all the group testing officer tasks along with sports shoe.
Five Day SSB Schedule
The day before the beginning of the 5 days SSB interview is that of reporting. Day 1 is for Screening Test in which Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests and Picture Perception & Description Test (PP & DT) happens. On Day 2 various Psychology Tests take place, like Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), Word Association Test (WAT), Situation Reaction Test (SRT) and Self Description Test (SD).
Day 3 and Day 4 are reserved for Group Testing Officer Tasks in which Group Discussion, Progressive Group Tasks (PGT), Individual Obstacles, Group Obstacles Race or Snake Race, Command Task, Lecturette, Final Group Task, Group Planning Exercise (Military Planning Exercise), Half Group Tasks etc. Day 5 of the 5 days SSB interview is that of the Conference. In this round, the candidates sit with the SSB board members who chat with them to ask a few general questions. This round tests a candidates’ confidence.
