Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination – One of the most difficult and challenging exam

The UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) has recently released notification for the CDS 1 2022 examination. Pattern or Scheme of Examination

The CDS exam is conducted to recruit commissioned officers in the Indian Armed Forces. Let us understand the first step of the recruitment cycle i.e. the written examination. The pattern or scheme of examination is as follows:

The examination is purely objective type. Multiple choice questions are asked in the exam. Candidates opting for Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Air Force Academy, need to clear three examinations i.e. English General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics. While the candidates opting for Officers Training Academy need to clear two examinations i.e. English and General Knowledge.  Each paper is of 100 marks and the duration of each exam is 2 hours.

However, candidates need to be very careful in attempting the papers as negative marking is applicable. 1/3 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer marked by the candidate. The complete bifurcation of the subjects can be best understood with the help of the following table:
