What is Sainik School?

Eligibility as per Sainik School Notification 2024

Sainik School Eligibility Criteria for Class 6

  • Age: A candidate should be between 10 and 12 years as of 31 March 2024 for admission to Class VI, i.e. he/she should have been born between 01 April 2012 and 31 March 2014 (both days inclusive) for admission to the academic year 2024-25.
  • Gender: Admission for Girls is open for Class VI. The age criterion is the same as that for boys. In their best interest, candidates must check the availability of seats for girls. The information bulletin contains details about the number of seats available for girls in any particular Sainik School. The information bulletin is available on the official website of NTA https://exams.nta.ac.in/AISSEE/

Sainik School Eligibility Criteria for Class 9

  • Age: A candidate should be between 13 and 15 years as on 31 March 2024, for admission to Class IX, i.e. he should have been born between 01 April 2009 and 31 March 2011 (both days inclusive) for admission to the academic year 2024-25.
  • Gender: Admission to Class IX is open for girls. That’s a great piece of news for female aspirants. In their best interest, candidates must check the availability of seats for girls.
  • Educational Qualification: He should have passed the Class VIII exam from a recognized school at the time of admission.

Documents Required for Sainik School Online Application

To successfully submit an online application for AISSEE 2024, candidates need to upload the following documents:

  • Scanned images of Candidate’s Photograph (filesize:10kb-200 kb) in JPG format
  • Candidate’s Signature (file size: 4kb-30kb) in JPG format.
  • Candidate’s left-hand thumb impression (file size 10 kb -50 kb) in JPG format. (In case of any eventuality of the left thumb being unavailable, candidates can upload a right-hand thumb impression)
  • Date of Birth Certificate File size (50 kb to 300 kb) in PDF format
  • Domicile Certificate File size (50 kb to 300 kb) in PDF format
  • Caste/Community/ Category Certificate( if applicable) File size (50 kb to 300 kb) in PDF format
  • Certificate of service (for Defence category-serving) and PPO for ex-servicemen, if applicable. File size (50 kb to 300 kb) in PDF format

Note: It is in the best interest to upload the candidate’s domicile certificate. However, if the domicile certificate of the candidate is not available, applicants can upload the domicile certificate of the parent in the relevant field for the purpose of submitting the online application. Successful candidates must furnish proof of domicile at the time of admission.

Reservation of Seats in Sainik Schools 2024-25

Every year in January, the National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts an entrance test for admission to Sainik Schools in classes 6 and 9. Before filling online application, it is in the best interest to know the number of seats available in various Sainik Schools in classes 6 and 9 and also the reservation policy adopted.

Reservation Policy according to Sainik School Notification 2024

67% of the seats are reserved for candidates domiciled in the State/ UT where the Sainik School is located. 33% of the seats are reserved for candidates from Other States and Union Territories (UT). Within each Category of Home State/ UT and Other States/ UT quota, seats are reserved on the following norms:
a) 15% of the seats are reserved for the Scheduled Caste (SC) category
b) 7.5% for the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category and
c) 27% for the Other Backward Classes category belonging to the Non-Creamy layer (OBCNCL) as per the central list.

Hence, 49.50% of the seats in Sainik School are reserved on the basis of the above-mentioned norms. Out of the remaining 50.50% of the seats in the Home State/ UT and Other States/ UT quota, 25% of the seats are reserved for the wards of defence (Serving personnel of Indian Army/Indian Airforce/ Indian Navy) personnel and ex-servicemen.
In the “Other States/ UT” quota, seats will be allotted in each category as per merit, subject to a maximum limit of 25% of vacancies in the category for any State or Union Territory. For example,
if there are 10 seats in the Other States/UT General Category, not more than 3 seats will be allotted to any one State, i.e. 25% of 10 or 2.5 rounded off to 3.
In Class VI of each Sainik School, 10% of the total vacancies or 10 seats, whichever is more, are reserved for girls.

Note: In case an SC/ST/OBC (NCL) category candidate comes in the general merit on his/her own, he or she will get admission against the general seat and will not get adjustment against their reserved share of SC/ST/OBC(NCL) seats.

How to clear the AISSEE 2024?
