About Rashtriya Military School

Rashtriya Military schools were established as King George’s Royal Indian Military schools. The one and only purpose was to take care of the education of sons of defence personnel. In 1952, the schools were reorganized and admissions were made open to the sons of Defence Service Officers and civilians. The school became a member of the Indian Public Schools Conference (IPSC) in 1954 and is an active member of IPSC. In 1966, the schools were renamed Military Schools. Its old motto, ‘Play the Game’ was replaced with ‘Sheelem Param Bhushanam’ which means Character is the Highest Virtue. On 25th Jun 2007, the school got its name “Rashtriya Military School”. The alumni of Rashtriya Military School are occupying high positions in the Armed Forces and in other sectors and are doing great service to the motherland. There are five Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS) located at Chail in the Shimla Hills of Himachal Pradesh, Ajmer, and Dholpur in Rajasthan, Belgaum, and Bengaluru in Karnataka. Rashtriya Military Schools admit students into Class VI & IX through a Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted under the aegis of the Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Army). Established in the year 1925, these Schools are among the oldest Public Schools in India.

Eligibility Criteria for RMS Admission Notification 2024

Education Qualification:

For admission to Class VI, the candidates should have passed Class V or be studying in Class V and pass it before the date of admission to a Rashtriya Military School. For admission in Class IX, the candidate should have passed Class VIII from a government/ recognized school before the date of admission to a Rashtriya Military School. However, candidates studying in Class V and Class VIII are eligible to appear in the respective Entrance Test.

Age:

For admission to class 6: Boys & Girls in the age group 10-12 years as on 31 March 2024 (born between 01 April 2012 to 31 March 2014, both days inclusive).

For admission to class 9: Boys (only) aged between 13-15 years as on 31 March 2024 (born between 01 April 2009 to 31 March 2011, both days inclusive).

Note: Wards of personnel Killed in Action get Six months’ relaxation in the upper age limit.

Scheme of Examination for RMS Admission Notification 2024

For admission to class 6

The RMS entrance exam for class 6 consists of questions in Mathematics, Intelligence, English, and General Knowledge. It is an offline exam. Students have to give their answers on the OMR sheet. The duration of the exam is two and a half hours.  The pattern of examination is as follows:

The RMS entrance exam for class 9 consists of questions in English, Hindi, Social Science, Mathematics, and Science. It is an offline exam. Students have to give their answers on the OMR sheet.   The scheme of examination is as follows:

Note: Generally,  the written test is of Class V standard for Class VI admission and Class VIII standard for Class IX admission. The medium of Question Paper in the entrance exam is bilingual (English and Hindi both) for Class VI and only in English for Class IX.
