About National Defence Academy (NDA)

The National Defence Academy (NDA) is the joint services academy of the Indian Armed Forces. 3. Joint Training: NDA offers joint training to cadets from all three services. This fosters camaraderie and a better understanding of the roles and responsibilities of each service, which is crucial for effective joint operations.
  4. Duration: The training program at NDA spans three years. It is divided into six terms, with a cadet receiving a bachelor’s degree in Arts, Science, or Computer Science upon completion.
  5. Curriculum: The curriculum at NDA includes a balanced mix of military training, physical fitness, and academic education. Cadets are taught a wide range of subjects, including Mathematics, Science, History, and languages.
  6. Cadet Life: Cadets at NDA follow a disciplined routine that includes academic classes, physical training, drills, sports, and various extracurricular activities. This holistic approach helps in their overall personality development.
  7. Entry: Admission to NDA is through a competitive examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in India. The examination is followed by an interview process and a medical examination.
  8. Tri-Service Representation: The NDA aims to produce well-rounded officers who can serve effectively in any of the three armed forces. Cadets get exposure to various aspects of military training and leadership that prepare them for the challenges of their respective services.

What after Training?

After completing their training at NDA, cadets join their respective service academies – the Indian Military Academy (IMA) for Army cadets, the Indian Naval Academy (INA) for Navy cadets, and the Air Force Academy (AFA) for Air Force cadets – for specialized training related to their chosen service. The NDA plays a vital role in shaping the future leaders of the Indian Armed Forces and fostering a spirit of camaraderie among the cadets from different services.
