Delhi Police – An overview

The Delhi Police is the agency responsible for enforcing the law in the National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCT). Delhi Police is functional under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India. The strength of the Delhi Police is approximately 84000 personnel, thus making it one of the largest metropolitan police forces in the world. About 25% strength of the Delhi Police is assigned to VIP security. The headquarters of the Delhi Police is located at Jai Singh Marg, Connaught Place, New Delhi. To further strengthen its forces, Delhi Police has released a notification for recruitment at 7547 posts in Delhi Police.  According to the Delhi Police Constable Vacancy Notification 2023, 5056 vacancies are for male candidates and 2491 vacancies are for female candidates.

Eligibility Criteria for Delhi Police Constable Vacancy

Nationality – The candidate must be a citizen of India.

Age limit – The candidate must be between 18-25 years as on 01-07-2023. Candidates should not have been born earlier than 02-07-1998 and later than 01-07-2005. However, age relaxations are applicable as per norms.

Educational Qualification – The candidate should have passed 10+2 (Senior Secondary) from a recognized board on 30-09-2023 i.e. on the closing date of receipt of online applications. Educational qualification is relaxable up to 11th passed for the:

  1. Sons/ daughters of serving, retired, or deceased Delhi Police Personnel/ Multi-Tasking Staff of Delhi Police, and
  2. Bandsmen, buglers, mounted constables, drivers, dispatch riders, etc. of Delhi Police only.

Male candidates must possess a valid driving license for LMV (Motor Cycle or Car) as on the date of PE&MT. A Learner’s License is not acceptable.

Candidates can apply online on the website of the Staff Selection Commission Before you start submitting the online application, please keep the following documents and information ready with you :

  1. Mobile Number – To be verified through OTP
  2. E-Mail ID – To be verified through OTP
  3. Aadhar Number – If the Aadhaar Number is not available, please give one of the following ID Numbers – Voter ID, PAN Card, Passport, Driving License, School/college ID
  4. Photograph – Recent colored passport-size photograph scanned in JPEG format (20 KB – 50 KB)
  5. Signature – Scanned in JPEG format.
  6. Proofs of educational qualification
  7. Proof of date of birth
  8. Disability certificate (If applicable)

Selection Procedure for Delhi Police Constable Vacancy

The recruitment for the post of Constable consists of the following stages:

  1. Computer-Based Examination (100 Marks) – The Computer-based examination will consist of one objective type multiple choice paper containing 100 questions carrying 100 marks. The duration of the exam is 90 minutes. There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. The question paper shall be of Matriculation Level.
  2. Physical Endurance and Measurement Test

Pattern of Examination for Delhi Police Constable Vacancy

The Computer Based Examination is a test of one-and-a-half hour (90 minutes) duration consisting of 100 objective-type questions. The total weightage of this test is 100 marks. There is a negative marking of 0.5 marks for every wrong answer.

For male candidates

Physical Measurement

Male candidates

Minimum height required – 170 cm (Relaxation applicable as per norms)

Chest – 81 cm with a minimum 4 cm expansion i.e. 81-85 cm  (Relaxations applicable as per norms)

Female candidates

Minimum height required – 157 cm (Relaxation applicable as per norms)
