Opportunities for Women- AFCAT exam

The Indian defence forces provide many golden opportunities to female candidates who are ready to show their valour for the betterment of the country. People have always doubted the courage of women but the Indian defence forces always supported, respected and welcomed them with open arms. There are many opportunities that women have in the Air force through the AFCAT exam such as:

Flying branch:  

Fighter pilots, Helicopter pilots and Transport pilots work for the flying branch. They work during the war as well as peace times. Female candidates can become flying officers in the Air force as a graduate by taking the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT). To apply for the flying branch, a candidate must be 19 to 23 years old. 

The educational qualifications required are having a Graduate degree in any discipline from a recognised university with an aggregate of 60% marks and have passed Mathematics and Physics at 10+2 level OR B.E/B.Tech degree from a recognised university with an aggregate of a minimum of 60% marks.

Technical Branch:

The technical branch looks after the machines and equipment. Both graduates and 10+2 passed candidates can apply for this branch as Officers and Airmen respectively. They ought to have Physics, Chemistry and Maths to make a career in the Indian Air Force technical branch. Candidates ought to take the AFCAT exam. 

Interested female engineering candidates must be 18 to 28 years old. The educational qualifications required for the Mechanical engineering branch are a minimum four-year degree course from a recognised university with an aggregate of a minimum of 60% marks and qualification in at least eight subjects out of eighteen or cleared Section A and B exam of Associate membership of Institution of engineers or Aeronautical Society of India in regular courses.

Minimum four-year degree course from a recognized university with aggregate of minimum 60% marks and qualification in at least eight subjects or cleared Section A and B exam of Associate membership of Institution of engineers or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership exam of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers in regular courses for the Electrical engineering branch 

Ground Duty Branch:

In this branch the departments like accounts, logistics, education, meteorology etc. fall. The officers and airmen in this branch are required to look after and maintain human and material resources. They have to manage funds, work as internal auditors, air traffic controller and fighter controller.

The age criteria for this branch is :

graduates: 20 to 23 years

Post Graduates: 20 to 25 years

LLB: 20 to 26 years

M.Ed/ PhD/ CA: 20 to 27 years

For the Air force Administration and Logistics branch, a candidate must be a Graduate in any discipline from a recognised university with an aggregate of 60% marks. As for the Education branch, she should be a Post Graduate degree in any discipline with an aggregate of a minimum of 50% marks. For the Accounts branch, she should have a Graduate degree in commerce with an aggregate of a minimum of 60% marks.
