About Sainik Schools
Sainik Schools are fully residential, co-educational institutions that follow the CBSE pattern of study. Without any doubt, they are one of the best educational institutions in the county. Every year, lakhs of children dream of making it to Sainik School, but only a few can make it. The Sainik School Society, an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, runs and manages these schools. At present, 33 Sainik Schools are operational in India. Also, there are 40 approved New Sainik Schools (NSS) functional across various states of India. In this post, we highlight the Sainik School 2026 eligibility criteria laid down for admission to classes 6 and 9 for the academic session 2026-27.
Sainik Schools are one of the most prestigious educational institutions in India. These schools train kids to join as officers in the Indian Armed Forces. They academically, physically, mentally, and emotionally prepare and groom kids so that they are ready to become officers in the Indian Defence Forces – Army, Navy, and Air Force. Sainik Schools offer military training to instill discipline, physical fitness, leadership skills, and a sense of patriotism among students. This includes activities like drills, shooting, obstacle courses, and adventure training.
Sainik School 2026 Eligibility Criteria for Class 6
- Age: A candidate should be between 10 and 12 years as of 31 March 2026 for admission to Class VI, i.e. should have been born between 01 April 2014 and 31 March 2016 (both days inclusive) for admission to the academic year 2026-27.
- Gender: Admission for Girls is open for Class VI. The age criterion is the same as that for all. In their best interest, candidates must check the availability of seats for girls. The number of seats available for girls in any particular Sainik School is mentioned in the information bulletin. The information bulletin is released as soon as the NTA releases the admission notification.
Sainik School 2026 Eligibility Criteria for Class 9
- Age: A candidate should be between 13 and 15 years as on 31 March 2026, for admission to Class IX, i.e. he should have been born between 01 April 2011 and 31 March 2013 (both days inclusive) for admission to the academic year 2026-27.
- Gender: Admission to Class IX is open for girls.
- Educational Qualification: Should have passed the Class VIII exam from a recognized school at the time of admission.
How to crack the RMS CET 2025 and AISSEE 2026 examinations?
Entrance examinations for Rashtriya Military School and Sainik School will take place in December 2025 and January 2026 respectively for academic session 2026-27. Students must start their preparation early so that they have sufficient time to prepare, revise, and practice a lot. Sainik Schools and RMS entrance exams are among the most prestigious exams in the country and difficult ones to crack.
