About the Staff Selection Commission

Staff Selection Commission is an organization functional under the Government of India to recruit staff for various posts in different ministries and departments of the Government of India and in subordinate offices. This commission consists of the Chairman, two members, and a secretary-cum-controller of examinations. His post is equivalent to the additional secretary to the government of India. The headquarters of the Staff Selection Commission is located in New Delhi. Currently, it has seven Regional offices at Prayagraj, Mumbai, Kolkata, Guwahati, Chennai, Bangalore, and New Delhi. It also has two Sub- Regional offices at Raipur and Chandigarh. SSC has released a notification for the recruitment of Constable (General Duty) in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). In this post, we discuss all the necessary details of the SSC GD notification 2022 like eligibility, important dates, the selection process, etc.

Number of Vacancies

The Staff Selection Commission has released notification for 24,369 posts. Out of these 24,369 vacancies, 24205 are in Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and 164 in Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). In all, this is a huge opportunity for the youth of the country to serve the motherland and in turn, secure a promising career for themselves.

Candidates who wish to appear for the Constable GD examination must keep the following dates in mind:

Conditions of Eligibility

  • Nationality/ Citizenship: The candidate must be a citizen of India.
  • Age Limit: 18-23 years as of 01-01-2023. Candidates should have been born between 02-01-2000 and 01-01-2005 (both dates inclusive). However, due to the ‘Covid Pandemic’, the Government has decided to grant three (03) years of age relaxation beyond the respective prescribed upper age limit for all categories of candidates as a one-time measure for this recruitment. After a relaxation of three (03) years in upper age, the candidate should not have been born earlier than 02-01-1997. Also, category-wise age relaxation is applicable as per norms.
  • Educational Qualifications (as of 01-01-2023): The candidates must have passed Matriculation or 10th Class Examination from a recognized Board/ University.

How to apply?

Candidates must submit the online applications at the official website of the Staff Selection Commission https://ssc.nic.in

The process of submitting the online application for the examination consists of two parts:

  1. One Time Registration
  2. Filling out online Application for the Examination

Step -1: For one-time registration, candidates need

1. Valid Mobile Number

2. Valid Email ID

3. Aadhaar Number

If Aadhaar Number is not available, candidates can provide any one of the following ID Numbers:

  • Voter ID Card
  • PAN
  • Passport
  • Driving License
  • School/ College ID
  • Employer ID (Govt./ PSU/ Private)

4. Information about the Board, Roll Number, and Year of Passing of the Matriculation (10th) Examination.

5. Disability Certificate Number, if you are a person with a benchmark disability.

Step – 2: To fill out the online application, log in using the id and password. Enter all relevant information and submit the application.

Selection Procedure for SSC GD Notification 2022

The process of recruitment consists of the following stages:

  1. Computer Based Exam (CBE)
  2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET) – For male candidates, a 5 km run in 24 minutes while for female candidates, a 1.6 km run in eight and a half minutes.
  3. Physical Standard Test (PST) – Minimum height required for male candidates is 170 cm and for female candidates, it is 157 cm. Relaxation in height is applicable as per norms. Measurement of the chest for male candidates should be 80 cm (unexpanded) and a minimum expansion of 5 cm is required. Weight should be proportionate to height and age as per medical standards.
  4. Detailed Medical Examination (DME)
  5. Document Verification
  6. Final merit list

Scheme of Computer-Based Examination for SSC GD Constable vacancy

The Computer Based Examination consists of four sections namely, General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Knowledge and General Awareness, Elementary Mathematics, and Hindi/English. Each section consists of 20 questions and each question carries 2 marks.  The total duration of the exam is one hour (60 minutes). There is a negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer. All questions are objective multiple-choice type questions. The language of computer-based examination is English and Hindi only.
