About Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV) are residential schools in India that are run by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. These schools were established to provide quality education to talented rural children to bridge the urban-rural education gap. This post highlights the facilities provided by JNV like free education, boarding facilities, books, uniform, stationery, security, medical facilities, etc.
Key features of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas:
- Selection Process: JNVs are open to students from rural areas of India who have completed the fifth grade (Class 5). The selection process involves a merit-based test called the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST). It takes place annually.
- Free Education: Students who are selected for admission to JNVs receive free education, including boarding and lodging facilities. This makes it possible for talented children from economically weaker societal sections to access quality education.
- Bilingual Education: The medium of instruction in JNVs is bilingual, typically using the regional language as well as English.
- Comprehensive Curriculum: JNVs offer a well-rounded education with a strong focus on academics, as well as co-curricular activities like sports, arts, and other extracurricular pursuits.
- Residential Schools: JNVs are residential schools, and students live on campus throughout the academic year. This fosters an environment of learning, camaraderie, and overall personality development.
- Regional Distribution: JNVs are distributed across various states and union territories in India to ensure a balanced representation from different regions.
- CBSE Affiliation: The schools are affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
JNVs have been instrumental in nurturing and providing education to many talented students from rural areas who have excelled in various fields. The schools aim to empower these students to contribute positively to society and the nation.
