Sainik School Important Information
History
The first Sainik School in India was Sainik School, Lucknow, established in July 1960. However, the Sainik School Society does not run and manage this institution. Uttar Pradesh State Government runs and manages this Sainik School and its name is Capt Manoj Kumar Pandey Sainik School. In fact, it is the only Sainik School in India that the State Government runs and manages. Of the 33 Sainik Schools operational under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, Sainik School Satara holds the distinction of being the first Sainik School, established in June 1961.

Admisison in Sainik School
Admission to Sainik School takes place through an entrance test called the All India Sainik School Entrance Examination (AISSEE). The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts this test pan India in a very efficient and transparent manner. The number of seats in each Sainik School is different. However, the average range of the number of seats is 60-100. The Sainik School takes fresh admission in Class 6. Admission to class 9 is subject to the number of vacant seats available. Girl candidates are eligible for admission into class 6 only.
Important Dates
The NTA releases the admission notification in the month of September/October every year. The National Testing Agency releases admit cards in the month of December. The authorities conduct the examination in January every year.
Eligibility Criteria
Age
For admission to Class 6 – The candidate should be between 10 to 12 years of age as of 31st March of the year of admission.
For admission to Class 9 – The candidate should be between 13 to 15 years as of 31st March of the year of admission.
Educational Qualification
For admission to Class 9 – The candidate should pass class 8 from a recognized school
Reservation of Seats
67% of the seats are reserved for candidates domiciled in the State/ UT where the Sainik School is located. 33% of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to other states. Within each category, 15% of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to the SC category, 7.5% of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to the ST category, and 27% of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to the OBC category. Accordingly, 49.5% of seats are reserved for SC/ST and OBC candidates. Out of the remaining 50.5% seats, 25% of seats are reserved for wards of defence personnel. Of the total number of seats in a particular Sainik School 10% or 10 seats, whichever is more, are reserved for girl candidates for admission into class 6.

Sainik School campuses comprise lawns, landscaped gardens, and playgrounds surrounding the building, with modern classrooms and state-of-the-art laboratories. These schools are located in a serene, peaceful environment away from noise and disturbance. Campuses spread across acres of lush green lands. Sainik School campus is highly safe and secured. The authorities don’t allow any student to leave the campus without prior permission and approval from the concerned person.
